The Butte County High School volleyball team put together one of the most dominant seasons in the fall.

The Pirates (42-8-1) at one point posted a 33-set winning streak, going nearly a month without so much as dropping a single set. They ended the year on a 20-match winning streak, culminating with the program’s first state championship in 28 years.

Coaches from around the state recognized those achievements by giving them a total of eight selections on the annual All-State teams that was released Thursday. This included sweeping both of the major categories for 2A with Gretchen Simpson and sophomore outside hitter Cambree Lyon earning Coach and Player of the Year, respectively, for Butte County.

Sophomore right side Addison Pancheri and junior libero Kolee Simpson were both first-team selections. Junior defensive specialist Lily Beard, sophomore setter Madi Gamett and junior middle blocker Paige Williams were on the second team. And sophomore outside hitter Autumn Gamett rounded it all out for the Pirates with her honorable mention selection.

Madison was right behind with seven selections, including first-year head coach Keanu Pukahi taking home Coach of the Year honors for 6A. He guided the Bobcats to a 38-2 record with the only two losses coming to out-of-state teams. They only dropped 12 sets all year.

Senior setter Nora Waddoups, an Idaho State signee, junior opposite MIa Walsh and junior libero Aspen Boice all made the first team for Madison. Sophomore outside hitter Jonnie Folsom, senior middle blocker Brookie Lamph and junior middle blocker Torey Parker were all on the honorable mention team.

Idaho Falls, which made state for the first time in eight years and took third at state, had four selections. The biggest of which was senior libero Gracie Fuger being named the 5A Player of the Year. She is signed to the Big 12’s Baylor University. Junior libero Addie Bowen and sophomore outside hitter Leah Thomas earned first-team honors, while senior outside hitter Averi Look was a second-team selection.

Shelley, Bonneville, Ririe and Firth all had two selections apiece.

Junior outside hitter Jaida Cook (second team) and junior middle blocker Josslyn Ivie (honorable mention) represented the Russets. Junior outside hitter Shayla Belnap (second) and junior setter Cambria Western (honorable mention) each made it on for the Bees. Senior setter Shae Sutton (first) and senior outside hitter Jadyn Nelson got on for the Bulldogs. And senior libero Olivia Christensen (second), along with senior setter Rachel Jacobsen (honorable mention) were picked for the Cougars.

Rigby junior outside Brinley Bybee (second), Thunder Ridge junior libero Reese Hone (honorable mention), Blackfoot senior outside hitter Sela Christiansen (honorable mention), South Fremont junior libero Jerzee Quayle (honorable mention), junior outside hitter Taylor Sessions (honorable mention) and Mackay senior setter Jocelyn Seefried (honorable mention) were all chosen as well for a total of 33 selections for the area.

The All-State teams are decided by the state’s coaches via a voting system overseen by Brandon Walton of the Idaho State Journal. Corwin Ford sponsors the selections.
