Idaho National Laboratory and E Cyclers of Idaho will be hosting several electronic waste collection events in coming months, according to a press release Thursday.

Individuals with electronics that no longer work or aren’t used are invited to bring them to events to be recycled for free. The first event will be at the Idaho Falls Public Library on Feb. 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

According to the release, accepted electronics include computers, monitors, printers, televisions, cellphones, fax machines, stereos, electronic games, large household appliances and medical equipment.

According to the release, INL has joined E Cyclers of Idaho as it closely aligns with the lab’s research goals to repurpose critical materials found in electronic waste for energy and national security.

Critical materials in electronic waste include cobalt, lithium, nickel and graphite. The waste can also contain valuable metals such as gold, silver, platinum, copper and aluminum.

E-Cyclers of Idaho is a certified recycler with standards to ensure any data contained in technology is destroyed.
