Soda Springs 44, Aberdeen 19

    Soda Springs started off strong and kept its foot down as the Cardinals ran through Aberdeen 44-19.

    Markee Kimball was a dead-eye Saturday night, hitting all eight field goal attempts for a game-high 16 points.

    “We were able to start quick again,” said Soda Springs head coach Wade Schvaneveldt. “Aberdeen came out and played a good third quarter. We were able to just play better in the fourth quarter and increase that lead a little bit.”

    Soda Springs (10-5, 2-0 2A 5th District) heads to Malad Wednesday.

Preston 46, Rigby 37

    Led by Lilli Swainston’s 12 points, the Preston Indians put together a complete game to down Rigby 46-37.

    “We’ve had some great quarters in different games of the week,” said Preston head coach Belinda Taylor. “The girls, they came in determined. They dug in and made it happen. It was exciting and very much needed for morale.”

    Shania Carlisle had eight points, Megan Porter had seven and both Bailey Roberts and Alexa VanVleet chipped in six.

    Preston (6-10) travels to Century Friday.

West Jefferson 32, Firth 30

    It was a defensive battle, and Firth came up just short in a 32-30 defeat to West Jefferson.

    Bailey Nelson led all scorers with 17 points for Firth. Though the Cougars had opportunities toward the end of the game to send it into overtime, the ball rolled the other way.    

    “I thought the kids did a good job of coming back and getting that opportunity,” said Firth head coach Sharla Cook. “West Jefferson came out and ran what they wanted to run.”

    Firth (10-4) hosts Salmon Wednesday.

    Hagerman rode a hot shooting night from the free-throw line to down Grace 52-45 Saturday at Hagerman High School.

    The Pirates went 21 of 26 from the charity stripe and pulled away in the fourth quarter.

    “We lost focus and we lost some composure,” said Grace head coach Kevin Smith. “We put them on the line too much.

    “We made our own destiny. We didn’t shoot well offensively all night long, but we played great defense to keep us in it.”

    Mackenzie Windley scored a team-high 16 for the Grizzlies and Danielle Prowell had 11.

    Grace (9-4, 4-1 1A D1) hosts Challis Thursday.

North Gem 35, Raft River 32

    North Gem took down Raft River with defense and free throws to win its sixth game in a row.

    Courtney McBride led the Lady Cowboys with 11 points to help guide North Gem to a 12-point fourth quarter in an otherwise defensive struggle.

    “The girls pretty much outlasted them,” said North gem head coach Joe Benglan. “They didn’t have much of a bench, and we wore them out. We had trouble executing, but we just kept grinding and were able to outlast them at the end.”

    North Gem (8-4) goes on a brutal three-game road trip that starts Thursday at West Side.

Rockland 44, Mackay 40

    Call 13 points an off night for Rockland’s Savannah Farr.

    But the 15 boards she had in the Bulldogs 44-40 win over Mackay? Typical.

    Farr led Rockland in scoring and had assistance from Tiffani Lee with 12 points and Stefani McClanahan with 11. And it was after starting in a 13-point hole Rockland found itself.

    “We just came out that second quarter and also the third quarter, and our kids built a fire in themselves defensively,” said Rockland head coach Vern Nelson. “We went after them with full-court pressure defense. We got them to either turn the ball over or miss shots.”

    McClanahan ended the night with five steals.

    Rockland (13-2, 9-0 1A D2 5th District) hosts Calvary Christian Tuesday.

    Kira Marlow and Indi Young led Shelley in scoring, but the Russets were not able to recover from a 10-point second half in a 39-37 loss to Jerome.

    Marlow had 15 and Young had 11. Jerome’s Stormy Reynolds led the game in points with 15.

    “(Marlow) kind of ignited us into getting our brake, the transition game going,” said Shelley head coach Burke Davis.
