BLACKFOOT — Blackfoot girls’ volleyball had a four point lead, 23-19, but six service errors doomed the Bronco’s, and the visiting Skyline Grizzlies eked out a 27-25 win in the first set.

    Ultimately, Skyline exerted its will and Blackfoot lost 25-27, 12-25, 13-25 Tuesday in Blackfoot.

    A young Blackfoot team (1-2), that returns three players with varsity experience from last year, battled with Skyline throughout a sloppy first set where both teams struggled with avoiding unforced errors.

    “I’ve only got one senior. A big part of it is keeping focused on some key points,” said head Blackfoot coach Lorin Lilya. “We were up 25-25 and we made a service error,” he said. “That’s just a little thing.”

    Despite losing the opening set in heartbreaking fashion, Blackfoot jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second frame. But Skyline’s Tilar Clark came up to serve, and by the time she stepped away the Grizzlies led 7-4 — a lead they would not relinquish.

    “I’m trying to get through their heads they are at the varsity level,” Lilya said. “They need to believe. We had a great match with Shelley where we won. The got to taste some success.”

    In the final set, the Grizzlies took an early four point lead, but the Broncos fought back. At one point, junior setter Lacey Turpin climbed the net and knocked the ball past two taller Skyline blockers.

    At 13-13, Skyline’s labero, Kylie Weber started to serve, and she never stopped until the Grizzlies had won the match.

    Despite the loss, Lilya did find some positives to take away with the Broncos’ play.

    “Our block looked really good tonight,” he said. “We funneled the ball well.

    Blackfoot hosts Hillcrest tonight at 7:30 p.m.
