Former Idaho State and BYU defensive tackle JonRyheem Peoples has agreed to join the New Orleans Saints as a rookie minicamp invitee, he confirmed to the Journal on Monday.

Peoples played three seasons at ISU, recording 101 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks in 30 appearances. He tallied career highs in tackles (46) and tackles for loss (2.5) as a redshirt senior in 2017 to earn honorable mention all-Big Sky Conference honors.

Peoples was a multisport star at Rigby High before joining the BYU football team in 2013. Peoples did not play for the Cougars, transferred to Idaho State for the 2015 season and was a fixture in the middle of the Bengals' defensive line for three years.

New Orleans is also home to former ISU tight end Josh Hill, as well as Highland High graduate, Pocatello native and Peoples' former BYU teammate Taysom Hill.

Peoples joins offensive lineman Skyler Phillips and linebacker Mario Jenkins as former Bengals to get NFL opportunities since Saturday. Phillips is joining the Seattle Seahawks and Jenkins is headed to the Kansas City Chiefs. Peoples was not drafted or invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, but participated with Jenkins and Phillips in ISU's pro day in early April.

Peoples and Phillips were also recognized for achieving a career GPA of 3.2 or better by the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society
