After getting a taste of professional baseball last summer, James Prockish is on his way to veteran status.

The former Gate City Grays catcher re-signed with the Monterey Amberjacks of the Pecos League on Friday at Next Level Sports in Pocatello.

“I feels great, honestly,” Prockish said. “Just really looking forward to getting out there and playing every single day and getting after it.”

Prockish appeared in 26 games last year for the Amberjacks, batting .258 with eight runs and nine RBIs. He also pitched 10 2/3 innings, going 0-1 with a 2.53 ERA and 10 strikeouts. The right-hander also made appearances at catcher, third base and the outfield.

Prockish, who also played for the Idaho State club baseball team, is one of two Grays payers to sign a Pecos League contract. Former Grays shortstop and current ISU club coach Sean Persky played 33 games for the Alpine Cowboys last summer.

“When we started this team, it was our dream to give players opportunities on multiple levels to keep playing, and also potentially to move on to bigger and better things,” Grays manager Trent Seamons said Friday. “So it's very important to us.”
