Only one District 5 team brought home hardware from the state tournaments this spring.
It was the Malad Dragons, who proved themselves as one of the top squads in Idaho all season and capped it with a third-place trophy and 20-4 record.
Malad rolled through the regular season and district tournament, outscoring opponents by an average score of 9.9-3 entering state. The Dragons’ potent offense and steady pitching carried the team toward the pinnacle, and a 2-1, eight-inning loss in the state semifinals separated them from a chance to win a state championship.
For his team’s success this season, Malad coach TC Williams is the 2018 All-Area Baseball Coach of the Year.
