The lowdown: The Indians were beneficiaries of having someone as experienced as Hendrickson, a four-year varsity member, a state champion and a leader in her final prep season. Preston will also miss her soccer IQ and ability to control the middle of the field.

Ashlynn Marshall (Marsh Valley)

The lowdown: Marshall was the top player for Marsh Valley, which made it to the 3A state semifinals. She could anticipate things before they happened, leading to her gaudy assist total.

Katie Hiller (Century)

The lowdown: Hiller was an X-factor for Century on the attack. Defenses could not lay off her from distance as she could score long-range goals. Like she is on the basketball court, she was feisty, successfully battling opponents for 50-50 balls.

The lowdown: Evans was a lockdown defender who rarely made a mistake. Her success came from a combination of athleticism, competitiveness and tenacity. Century named her the team’s player of the year.

Ryann Obray (Highland)

The lowdown: Obray boasted size to wrestle balls away from opposing players on defense and maintain possession on offense. She also scored an unusually high number of goals for her position.

Courtney Handlen (Century)

The lowdown: Handlen made a great defense into one that was phenomenal. The junior missed the first half of the season because of a procedure on her pinky toe before serving as the centerpoint of the defense. She was given the role because of her athleticism, plus her ability to dribble with either foot.

Victoria Wesen (Century)

The lowdown: Wesen was a huge asset for Century on the left side of the defense. Not only could the left-footed player defend opposing players, she could add another facet to the offensive side because of her ability to use her left foot effectively. Wesen had one of the biggest plays of Century’s season, netting a goal to put the Diamondbacks ahead for good in their 3-1 4A state quarterfinal win over Middleton.

The lowdown: Most noticeable about Labra was the speed and size she possessed as a defender. But her soccer IQ could not be forgotten, possessing the ability to predict what was going to happen next.

Paige Moser (Preston)

Stats: 4 assists

The lowdown: Moser thrived on defense after serving as midfielder last year. She switched positions to give Preston more skill on defense. It wasn’t an easy transition at first, but she grew into it quickly.

Mikayla Sherer (Century)

The lowdown: Sherer served as the starting goalkeeper for a team that allowed .7 goals per game this season. She displayed confidence in the box, which possibly came from experience as she has found success in the past, including last season when she was a Journal first teamer.

Dayzee Carter (Century)

The lowdown: Carter was a skilled forward, able to use both feet when the ball was in her possession. She scored two goals in the district tournament and had a hat trick in a 6-0 win against Idaho Falls in the regular season.

Makenna Baker (Highland)

Sophomore forward

Stats: 11 goals

The lowdown: Baker, who people know from her basketball exploits, delivered on the soccer field with athleticism and competitiveness. She used her energy to corral unpossessed balls and score. Her 11 goals were a team-high.

Cinthia Castro (American Falls)

Senior forward

Stats: 10 goals, 14 assists

The lowdown: Castro drew attention because of past success, yet still delivered on the attack. She also knew how to fit seamlessly fit into the offense.

Korbie Bowman (Marsh Valley)

Freshman forward

Stats: 14 goals, 5 assists

The lowdown: Bowman was a rookie on varsity, but played like a veteran because of her experience in soccer outside of school. She scored four of Marsh Valley’s five goals at the state tournament.

McKenzie Gunter (Marsh Valley)

Stats: 7 goals and 11 assists

The lowdown: Gunter missed about three weeks of the season and still made major contributions. It was the same story as previous years, as she used unmatched athletic ability and vision to create scoring opportunities.

Jetta Goff (Snake River)

The lowdown: Goff did everything for Snake River. The midfielder even played goalkeeper early in the season. American Falls coach Mario Torres said, “Jetta Goff, hands down, was the best goalkeeper we played all year.”

The lowdown: Century coach Jamshid Roomiany called Smith a “defuser,” as she went wherever there was a battle for the ball, despite having a small frame. She also was successful at scoring goals.

The lowdown: Nochebuena had pinpoint accuracy with her left foot, especially when she was delivering crosses for her team to pounce on. She could also score from long distance.

The lowdown: Harris battled a back injury all season, but was still an essential piece to a 4A state tournament participant. One of her best assets was scoring from deep.

The lowdown: Diehl made up for her lack of height with aggressiveness. The freshman put her body on the line to dive on balls in the box. In the 5A consolation semifinals, she made two saves when Highland won in penalty kicks.
