One man died and another was listed in critical condition at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center Monday in Idaho Falls following two separate and unrelated snowmobile accidents that took place over the weekend.

    On Saturday, a snow machine driven by Norman Zullin, of Long Island, New York, had failed to yield at a stop sign for a trail crossing on Highway 20 in the Island Park Village area around 5:20 p.m. Fremont County Sheriff’s Office officials further indicated that Zullin and his snow machine were struck by a car.

    Authorities said Zullin sustained head injuries, despite the proper use of a helmet, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger inside the car, Jerry and Grace Fisher, of Grand Junction, Colo., were treated at the scene of the accident for minor injuries.

   At this time, officials say no charges have been filed in connection with this incident.

    On Sunday, Michael Carmody, 49, of Appomattox, Virgina,  was riding his snowmobile on a groomed trail near the Island Park Scout Camp around 3 a.m. when he reportedly lost control of the machine and struck a tree head on.

    Fremont County Sheriff’s Office deputies said Carmody suffered from trauma to his face and head, despite the proper use of a helmet.

    Carmody was transported from the scene by a medical sled back to Highway 20 near Pond’s Lodge where he was transported to EIRMC. Hospital officials indicated that he was listed in critical condition Monday night.

    The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
