IDAHO FALLS — A driver who failed to stop for a school bus with its lights flashing triggered a chain-reaction crash Tuesday morning east of Idaho Falls that sent two people to the hospital, Idaho State Police said.

The crash occurred at 6:48 a.m. on U.S. Highway 26 near North 45th East.

A 32-year-old Ririe woman driving a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse westbound on Highway 26 failed to yield for a stopped school bus that had its lights activated while picking up children, state police said. Her vehicle struck the rear of a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 42-year-old Idaho Falls man, that had stopped for the bus, state police said. The force of that impact pushed the Silverado into the rear of the school bus, driven by a 43-year-old Idaho Falls woman.

No children on the bus were injured. All occupants were wearing seatbelts.

The drivers of the Traverse and the Silverado were transported by ambulances to a local hospital. Their names and conditions were not released.

The crash blocked Highway 26 for approximately two hours. Idaho State Police were assisted by the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office, Idaho Falls Police Department, Idaho Falls Fire Department and the Idaho Transportation Department.

The crash remains under investigation.
