POCATELLO — Pocatello police are on the lookout for two men who might have attempted to lure a young child into their car Thursday.

In a press release on Thursday, Lt. Ian Nelson said the search follows an incident that occurred in the area of South Fairway and Marigold just before 5 p.m. 

A group of children were playing in a church parking lot when a white, four-door vehicle with tinted windows pulled up to them. The passenger of the vehicle opened the passenger side door and attempted to contact a four-year-old girl who was also playing. 

Several other children playing in the area saw this and began yelling, at which time the white vehicle drove away and fled the area. 

The passenger in the white vehicle was described as a white male wearing a white shirt and jeans and having red glasses. 

Anyone with information about the vehicle or its occupants is urged to call the police at 208-234-6110 or 208-234 6131.

The close call in Pocatello comes just two days after Idaho Falls police asked for the public’s help in locating a man driving a white van who allegedly kidnapped and raped a teenaged boy Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the southwest portion of the city.

I.F. Police Spokeswoman Joelyn Hansen said Thursday that there was no new information in the case.

The man is described as being a buff and fat male in his 20s or 30s, 5-foot-9, with dark brown skin and short dark brown hair. He is also described as a “gangster,” wearing new Nike brand skater shoes, all black clothing with gold rings on his hands. 

The abductor also smelled strongly of cigarette smoke and was clean shaven. 

The van had a sliding door. The vehicle did not have striping and had three captain’s chairs and a bed in the back of it with purple and pink bedding. 

The 14-year old victim was not able to get the license plate number.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. The boy reported being threatened with a gun, but he did not see a weapon.
