POCATELLO — An alleged drunk driver was arrested Sunday evening after fleeing on foot from the scene of a two-vehicle collision near the intersection of Interstate 15 and Pocatello Creek Road.
Ira Enos, 33, of Fort Washakie, Wyoming, was arrested after leading police on a brief foot-pursuit following a two-vehicle accident he allegedly caused because he was drunk, police said.
The incident began to unfold around 8:40 p.m. Sunday when Enos failed to stop at the stoplight at the intersection of the Interstate 15 off-ramp and Pocatello Creek Road. Enos was exiting Interstate 15 at the time.Â
The vehicle Enos was driving collided with a car heading east on Pocatello Creek Road. Enos then attempted to re-enter Interstate 15 via the northbound on-ramp but his car became inoperable because of damage from the crash, police said.
Nobody was injured as a result of the crash, police said.
After his car became inoperable, Enos fled from the scene on foot and was apprehended by police without further incident within a few blocks of the crash. Police said Enos' blood-alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit of .08 percent.
Enos was medically cleared and then transported to the Bannock County Jail, police said.
Enos has been charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident. If convicted, he faces up to one year in jail and up to $2,000 in fines.
