A Pocatello woman is facing charges following a vehicle pursuit on Sunday night that involved speeds up to 75 mph and ended shortly after a crash. Sonja Tendoy is facing a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence as well as a felony count of attempting to elude an officer in a motor vehicle.

    Bannock County Sheriff’s Deputy Matt Lovell said the pursuit began around 9 p.m. in the area of Hawthorne and Tyhee, after the suspect failed to yield during a routine traffic stop.

    Lovell said the vehicle wasn’t maintaining its lane of travel at that point and he was concerned about the potential danger to the public. He pursued the vehicle until it reached the intersection of Yellowstone and Chubbuck, at which point the Chevy Lumina struck a Buick traveling in the same area.

    Lovell said the Chevy didn’t stop following the crash, but continued to an apartment complex at 4719 Yellowstone. At that point the suspect attempted to leave the vehicle and was subdued by a taser and then placed under arrest.

    The investigation into the accident has been turned over to Idaho State Police since Bannock County Sheriff’s Office was involved in the pursuit, Lovell said.

    Idaho State Police emergency dispatchers said Monday that no one appeared to have been injured in the crash.
