POCATELLO — A new Arctic Circle restaurant is planned for construction on the fast food chain’s former location at 198 Yellowstone Ave., according to a building permit recently filed with the city.

The building has been shuttered with a message to customers on its sign: “Closed come see us at 4488 Yellowstone.”

According to the building permit, the old building will be leveled and a new 2,900-square-foot restaurant will be built on the site. The permit estimates the value of the new facility at $950,000. It will have a 70-seat capacity.

The permit lists the owner as Chris Nalley. AE Urbia Architects and Engineers, of Utah, is the listed architect. D3 Construction, Inc., which has a Pocatello office at 1527 N. Second Ave., is listed as the applicant.

Arctic Circle has more than 70 locations in seven states and was the first eatery to offer fry sauce, according to the company’s website. The restaurant chain was founded in 1924 by Don Carlos Edwards, who started with a refreshment stand set up for a Pioneer Day celebration.
