Charges have been filed in connection to a high-speed chase last month that began in Chubbuck and ended with the suspect’s vehicle colliding with a car at the intersection of Oak Street and Yellowstone Ave.

Idaho State Police Lt. Gonzales reports that the driver of the vehicle, Karla Devinney, has been charged with driving under the influence, failure to obey a traffic control device and for not having insurance in connection to the chase and crash that happened on the night of Feb. 21.

Devinney, driving a 1998 Ford SUV, allegedly led law enforcement officers on the chase before colliding at East Oak Street and Yellowstone Avenue with a 1996 Toyota Camry driven by Rich Friel.

The impact caused the SUV to roll several times before coming to rest about 50 yards from the intersection.

Following the crash, Devinney and her three passengers — Dustin Tendoy, Stormy Adakai and Damion Loneman—were transported via ambulances to the Portneuf Medical Center. They were treated for moderate injuries and have since been released. None of the passengers in the vehicle are facing charges.

Friel suffered back and neck injuries, as well as a concussion in the crash. He was transported via private vehicle to PMC, where he was treated and later released. A passenger in Friel’s vehicle was not hurt. He has since been charged with driving without privileges.

Prior to the chase, Pocatello police reported that Devinney’s SUV was wanted in connection with a hit-and-run crash in Pocatello earlier on the night of Feb. 21. Chubbuck police then spotted the SUV at the Maverik convenience store on Yellowstone Avenue, but the vehicle sped away when a Chubbuck officer approached it.

Chubbuck police pursued the SUV into Pocatello. It was later learned that the SUV’s occupants also allegedly stole two cases of beer from the Maverik.

When Devinney reached Highway 30, Chubbuck police discontinued the pursuit.

A Bannock County sheriff’s deputy then spotted Devinney’s SUV and followed it from a distance. This deputy came across the accident scene at Oak and Yellowstone about 30 seconds after the wreck occurred, according to traffic cameras at the intersection.

Pocatello and Chubbuck police, Idaho State Police and Bannock County sheriff’s deputies were involved in the pursuit and/or responded to the crash.
