    July 18, 1988: Idaho Power Company officials blame a high-wire squirrel act for a power outage that affected 900 residential customers on Pocatello’s east side. The squirrel short-circuited an electrical transformer. “The squirrel was fried,” Idaho Power said.

    July 18, 1963: The number of entries in the Pocatello Frontier Centennial parade has risen to 115, guaranteeing that it is predicted to be the largest in Pocatello history. The parade is so big because it’s three parades rolled into one.

    July 18, 1963: President Kennedy was mobbed — in his own backyard — by more than 2,500 high school students from 56 countries in hopes of a handshake or an autograph. Kennedy took a severe buffeting as the youngsters pushed and shoved.
