UPDATE FROM ADA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

We are devastated to share that Deputy Tobin Bolter died this morning as a result of his injuries from last night’s shooting.

Sheriff Matt Clifford shared the news during a press conference this morning.

Deputy Bolter has seven years of law enforcement experience and has been with the ACSO since January. Prior to that, he worked with Meridian Police Department and Pleasant Hill Police Department.

The deputy responding the incident, who was involved in a crash at Meridian/Amity, is in stable condition. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash was also transported to the hospital. Idaho State Police are investigating the crash.

We would like to thank Ada County Paramedics and the staff at Saint Alphonsus for taking care of our deputies. We would also like to thank the citizens who stopped to help Deputy Bolter.

UPDATE FROM BOISE POLICE DEPARTMENT

As has been reported, shortly before 9 pm on 4/20/2024, an Ada County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot by a suspect after making a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of W. Overland Rd. and S. Raymond St in Boise.

Around 9:30 p.m. Boise Police Officers located the unoccupied suspect vehicle from that incident near S. Roosevelt and W. Dorian streets, and a search for the suspect ensued. Eventually, a subject believed to be the shooting suspect was located outside a residence on S. Jackson Street.

Boise Police issued a Code Red notification to neighbors in the area warning them about the incident. BPD Special Operations Unit members responded and attempted to take the suspect safely and peacefully into custody, but he was uncooperative. Ultimately, shortly after midnight, the suspect fired a weapon at officers.

A BPD officer then fired his weapon at the suspect, striking him. The suspect was given medical aid and transported by ambulance to a local area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force (CITF) led by the Garden City Police Department is investigating the BPD Officer-Involved Shooting. No Boise Police officers were physically injured and the involved officer will be placed on administrative leave, per policy.

“Our sincerest thoughts and prayers are with the injured Ada County Deputy and his family at this extremely difficult time,” said Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar. “We are thankful no innocent, uninvolved bystanders were injured in these violent encounters. There is absolutely no excuse for this violence perpetrated against police in our community. I am both angered and heartbroken at the same time.”

ORIGINAL STORY

On 4/20/2024 at approximately 8:55pm, an Ada County Sheriff’s Office deputy made a traffic stop in the area of W. Overland Rd. and N. Raymond St. in Boise.

At some point during the stop, the suspect in the vehicle shot the deputy. A citizen witnessed the shooting, called 911, and performed CPR. The deputy was transported to St. Alphonsus in Boise.

The deputy’s condition is unknown at this time.

The suspect vehicle has been located. The suspect is still outstanding and is considered armed and dangerous. There are active searches currently underway.

While on their way to assist the downed deputy, another Ada County Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in a two-vehicle crash with a power pole near S. Meridian Rd. and E. Amity Rd. The deputy was transported to St. Alphonsus in Boise. The deputy’s condition is unknown at this time.
