POCATELLO — The Idaho-State Civic Symphony premieres its “Music of Latin America” season on Sept. 29, with the “Caribbean Sea” concert, said Lorie Murray and Carol Burnett, board co-presidents. Conductor/artistic director, Nell Flanders, beginning her second season with the symphony, will explore the tremendously varied music of Latin America.

“Over the season, we’ll make musical stops in the Caribbean, Central America, the Andes and Brazil,” Flanders said. “The five concerts this season will reflect the sounds and stories of many indigenous cultures, the folk music traditions of Europe, especially Spain, rhythms and song styles from Africa, and Western concert music. Much of this music also celebrates the continent’s incredible natural beauty and ecological diversity and the people who call it home,” she continued. “Our journey will feature classical favorites, too, including Johannes Brahms’ magnificent ‘Schicksalslied’ (“Song of Destiny”) in the September concert with the ISU Concert Choir and the Camerata Singers under the direction of Dr. Scott Anderson.”

Season packages for the five-concert series or a Flex package for any three concerts are available until the season opener. Tickets for any individual concert are also available now and throughout the season.
