ISU Theatre will show “Emme and the Taking of the Woods” this Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Bistline Theatre at the Stephens Performing Arts Center. The Idaho State-Civic Symphony closes out its season with “Brahms Requiem” this Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Jensen Grand Hall in the Stephens Performing Arts Center. This collaboration with the ISU Concert Choir and Camerata Singers offers a profound reflection on life, loss and hope. Best Picture Oscar nominee “The Secret Agent” plays this Sunday at 4 and 7 p.m. in the Bengal Theater. A Brazilian technology expert gets caught in the political turmoil as a result of the country’s harsh military dictatorship. Hoping to reunite with his son, he travels to Recife during the Carnival festival, but soon realizes that the city is not the safe haven he was expecting. FilmWeek calls it “a top-notch political thriller. It’s layered, absorbing, and also has a lot of humanity amidst the twists and turns,” while NPR adds, it’s “a rousing, suspenseful, occasionally hilarious, and ultimately unnerving tale of battling political oppression.” Rated R. Looking ahead to next week, join beloved musician Nathan Pacheco for his Emmanuel, Spring 2026 Tour: A Celebration of the King, on April 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jensen Grand Hall at the Stephens Performing Arts Center. Pacheco is a classically trained tenor who has been featured globally, performing with Yanni, Olga Tañon, and Katherine Jenkins and the National Symphony Orchestra. The 25th anniversary screenings of the “Lord of the Rings” runs from April 30 to May 3, with the newly remastered versions of both the original and extended editions being featured. “The Fellowship of the Ring” will be shown at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, April 30 and May 1. Then “The Two Towers” plays at 2 and 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 2. And finally, “The Return of the King” plays at 2 and 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 3. The early shows will be the original release, while the later shows will be the extended editions. The films are all rated PG-13. All three films were nominated for Best Picture Oscars for their 2001-2003 releases, with 2003’s “Return of the King” becoming the Best Picture winner and the most decorated movie in Oscar History, winning in all 11 categories it was nominated for. The story tells of Middle-earth and the smallest of people, the Hobbits, who are drawn into a clash between good and evil as the world of humans, elves and dwarves face the dark forces of Sauron.
