POCATELLO — United Way of Southeastern Idaho and the Portneuf District Public Library have joined forces with My World Discovery Children’s Museum, in parttnership with the Alsett Clean World Foundation, in a multi-year effort to expand access to early learning through the creation of Tree Top Tales, a cozy, book-themed reading space designed to spark early literacy, imaginative play and family bonding for children ages 2–10.

This collaboration reflects a shared vision: to create enriching, educational spaces where children and families can connect, grow and thrive together. By aligning the missions of United Way of Southeastern Idaho, Portneuf Public Library, My World Discovery Children’s Museum and the Alsett Clean World Foundation, Tree Top Tales represents more than just a reading space; it’s a symbol of what’s possible when community partners come together to support early learning, family engagement and lifelong curiosity.

Tree Top Tales offers a welcoming environment for children and families to engage in reading and playing. The exhibit includes quiet seating areas, rotating book selections curated by the Portneuf District Public Library, and interactive literacy activities designed to spark imagination and support early learning. A whimsical tree feature is incorporated into the design, helping create a cozy and imaginative atmosphere for young readers. Enhancing the design of the space, a natural turf installation donated by Idaho Turf Co., adds a warm, playful touch that helps the space feel more like a backyard reading nook, inviting families to settle in and explore stories together.

Elements of United Way’s ReadTalkPlay initiative are also featured throughout the space, encouraging parents and caregivers to read, talk and play with their children every day. Recognizing that parents and caregivers are a child’s first and best teachers, the exhibit offers supportive experiences and ideas to help families strengthen early learning. The reading corner is also valuable for families who may have limited access to early literacy programs, helping more children build the language, social-emotional and cognitive skills that support success in school and beyond.

The community is invited to celebrate the opening of Tree Top Tales at the My World Discovery Museum, 711 S. 2nd Ave. in Pocatello, for the Chamber of Commerce Trailblazer Ribbon Cutting on Tuesday at 5:15 p.m., with the exhibit open to the public until 7 p.m. Family-friendly crafts and extended reading sessions will be available during the celebration.

By creating a warm, book-centered environment where families can read, talk and explore together, Tree Top Tales reflects United Way’s commitment to education, removing barriers, elevating community assets and investing in practical, high-impact solutions that help children across Southeast Idaho learn and grow.
