POCATELLO — Local members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are planning to gather on West Cedar Street to hold its annual Take and Trade event.

Troy Dye, media specialist for the church's Pocatello Communications Council, said the Take and Trade will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the church building on 550 West Cedar Street.

"There's a big parking lot in the back," Dye said. "It will be out in that parking lot."

The idea of the Take and Trade is to have people bring items that are in good condition that they no longer need. Their items will be displayed in the parking lot, and everyone at the event will be able to go through and choose an item they want.

"It's almost like a flea market," Dye said. "They can look through items and reuse them. It's kind of a repurposing experience."

People bringing items to the event are asked not to bring baby furniture or used tires. They don't want people bringing anything that can be risky or problematic.

"They can bring anything they like in good repair," Dye said. "They just have a few guidelines."

A pancake breakfast will be provided at the event from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. while the Take and Trade is going on. It will be free for everyone who attends the event.

"Once they're done, they'll take everything down to a thrift store in town and make a donation to them," Dye said.

The Take and Trade is an annual event that has been held for the past few years. Dye said it is usually well attended, and they plan to continue to hold it in the years to come.

"We'll continue to do this as long as there's interest," Dye said. "The interest has not faded."

The best thing about the Take and Trade event is that it gives people a chance to find homes for their old items that would otherwise be sitting in storage collecting dust.

"We can be helpful and find a place for these items," Dye said.

Another great thing about the event is that it helps people struggling to afford the things they need. All the items at the event are being given away for free, so they won't have to spend any money.

"It's not about things," Dye said. "It's about people having their needs met."

Everyone in the community is welcome to come to the Take and Trade, even if they don't have an item to trade.

"It's a lot of fun," Dye said. "You don't have to worry about bringing anything."
