American Falls 2, Bonners Ferry 1

CALDWELL - The American Falls boys' soccer team staved off defeat by scoring two goals in the final seven minutes in 1 2-1 win over Bonners Ferry in the 3A boys' state soccer semifinals Friday at Vallivue High.

Sam Sanchez equalized when he beat two defenders and chipped the ball over the Bonners Ferry goalkeeper. Sanchez then scored the game-winner by hammering in a Tony Rodriguez cross.

American Falls (14-3-1) plays Payette in the state final at 2 p.m. tomorrow. Bonners Ferry (13-5-3) plays Sugar-Salem in the third/fourth match.

"We had some really good players that didn't give up," American Falls coach Scott Christensen said. "It really was an amazing finish."

Bliss 6, Aberdeen 1

CALDWELL - The Aberdeen boys' soccer team's season came to an end with a 6-1 loss to Bliss in the consolation round of the 3A state tournament on Thursday at Vallivue High.

Meliton Serna scored the lone goal for the Tigers, who put seven shots on goal in the match.

Senior J.J. Barroso scored two goals and tallied two assists for the Bears, while junior Cole Erkins added two goals.

Bliss (13-6-1) moves on to face Weiser (13-4-3) in the consolation championship at 11 a.m. today.

Mountain View 4, Highland 0

MERIDIAN - Junior keeper Hailey Stephens made nine saves, but it wasn't enough as Highland ended its season with a 4-0 loss to Mountain View on Friday at Rocky Mountain High School.

The Rams end their season with a 13-3-4 record. Mountain View (14-3-3) will face off against Sandpoint (14-4-4) in the consolation championship at 9:30 a.m. today at Meridian High.

4A

Century 1, Hillcrest 0

CALDWELL - Following Century's loss to Wood River last week in the Great Basin Conference championship, Diamondbacks coach Jamshid Roomiany figured his team would see the Wolverines again.

He was right, but the teams won't be playing for the 4A state title like he guessed. Instead, Century will meet the only team to beat it in the regular season in today's consolation championship after Friday's 1-0 over Hillcrest.

Senior keeper Brook Ferro stopped 12 shots, and freshman Marais Hicks scored on an assist from freshman Hannah Fort to lead the Diamondbacks.

The win leads to today's showdown against Wood River, which is set for 11 a.m. at Brothers Park in Caldwell. The Wolverines (17-2-1) beat the Diamondbacks (11-2-3) in their conference championship match Oct. 16.

Aside from its opening-round Bishop Kelly, Wood River's only loss came at the hands of 5A Highland, a team Century played to a draw in two matchups.

3A

Snake River 3, Buhl 2

CALDWELL - Snake River played 60 good minutes of soccer during its 3-2 consolation round win over Buhl on Friday.

The 20 minutes during which the Panthers struggled, though, almost did them in.

Snake River jumped out to a 2-0 lead before allowing the Indians to tie things up.

"It was a good 60 minutes," said Panthers coach Randy Turpin, "and a bad 20 minutes for us."

Still, a goal off a corner kick with five minutes to play carried Snake River into the consolation championship for the second year in a row. As is their policy, the Panthers don't single out individual goal-scorers.

"There's only three teams that get to end with a win in every bracket in every tournament," Turpin said. "If these girls want to go out on the win, they've got that possibility."

To do so, the Panthers (13-2-5) must beat Teton (18-3-2) in the consolation title match set for 11 a.m. today. The two teams split a pair of regular-season matches.
