FAIRFIELD - Rockland's football team sent retiring coach Steven May out on a good note with a 54-6 win at Camas County on Thursday.

The Bulldogs did not make the playoffs but ended the season with a 4-4 record.

"I really had a good time with these kids," May said. "I've enjoyed every minute of it for the last 33 years. I couldn't have a better job."

The game also represented the swansong for Rockland's eight seniors. The Bulldogs built a 40-6 lead at halftime and invoked the mercy rule by scoring two more touchdowns in the third quarter.

They rushed for five touchdowns, with Ty Colton accounting for two of them. Quarterback Richie Turnbeaugh passed for a score and ran for another.

"I've coach in a great community in Rockland for 33 years," May said. "You don't see that very often, to be able to be in one place for 33 years. I just really appreciate the support of the school and the community."
