Mackay 26, North Gem 12

BANCROFT - The 1A North Gem football team kept Mackay's Kole Krosch in check through the air - but not on the ground.

Krosch ran for two touchdowns, teammate Shayne Kraczek ran for 109 yards and the Miners held off the Cowboys, 26-12, on Friday in Bancroft.

"We really ran out of gas," North Gem coach Kevin Carey said. "We'd drive, and we'd be moving the ball, and then we'd shoot ourselves in the foot."

North Gem ran for 79 yards, and quarterback Austin Wuttke completed 10-of-20 passes for 130 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown pass to Taylor Starks that gave the Cowboys a lead in the second quarter.

But after the Cowboys took that 12-6 lead, the Miners scored the game's remaining three touchdowns to seize the lead back and then seal the victory. They did so almost exclusively by running; Krosch finished just 3-of-16 passing for 23 yards.

Mitchel Hall scored North Gem's first touchdown on a 90-yard kickoff return.

"We just got beat tonight," Carey said. "They came out and ran the ball right over the top of us, and we couldn't find the answer soon enough."

Now 1-2, North Gem visits Murtaugh next week.

Carey 55, Rockland 8

CAREY - Three turnovers cost the 1A Rockland football team dearly in a 55-8 loss at Carey on Friday.

All three of the Bulldogs' turnovers led to touchdowns, and with the halftime score what it was, the teams didn't take the field for a second half.

"It was real discouraging," Rockland coach Steve May said. "We did make a lot of errors … but they're a pretty decent team, there's no doubt about it."

Senior Jake Spillett carried seven times for a game-high 120 yards and scored the Bulldogs' only touchdown. Junior Richie Turnbeaugh added another 44 yards on seven carries.

Heath Adamson ran for 112 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Panthers (3-0), who came into the game ranked No. 2 in the state media's 1AD2 poll.

Now 1-2 overall, Rockland hits the road again next week to play Dietrich.
