AMERICAN FALLS - The American Falls wrestling team's season got off to a good start when it edged both Highland and Pocatello in a quad meet at home Wednesday. The Beavers beat the Indians 38-35 and the Rams 34-33.
"That's part of the reaston we like to wrestle Pocatello and Highland right out of the gate," American Falls coach Jim Giulio said. "They're always good competition, and they always seem to go down to the wire."
American Falls (2-0) got bad news, though, when 140-pounder Jake Sherburne broke his arm in a bout with Highland's James Esplin.
Highland (1-1) got solid varsity debuts from 103-pounder Brennan Bell and 112-pounder Anthony Esplin, who split their two matches. Heavyweight Galen Edmo defeated Snake River's Nick Martin and picked up a forfeit against American Falls.
"Those new kids went out and competed and gave their best, and the older kids went out and led the way," Highland coach Travis Bell said.
Pocatello's Eddie Millward, Abner Cook and Trevor Rupp each won both their matches.
