FILE - Notre Dame quarterback Steve Angeli, who has since transferred to Syracuse, looks to pass the ball during an NFL football game against Navy, Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, in East Rutherford, N.J.
Expectations are mixed at best regarding Syracuse's football program, which essentially resembles Fran Brown’s first two seasons coaching the Orange. After raising hopes following a 10-3 finish in Brown’s first year, the Orange utterly unraveled by going 3-9 last season in which they lost eight straight, including a 70-7 loss at Notre Dame. The skid immediately followed Syracuse losing starting quarterback Steve Angeli to a torn Achilles. But that wasn’t the only issue. The defense proved to be a turnstile in ranking among the worst in the nation against the run, while also grading poorly against the pass. Syracuse opens the season hosting New Hampshire on September 5.
