SODA SPRINGS - Colter Reeves and the Firth rushing attacked piled up an impressive number of yards Friday night against Soda Springs on the way to a 12-0 win.

Reeves rushed 28 times for 229 yards and two touchdowns, but Cardinals coach Rod Worthington left the game pleased with how his defense managed to keep the bruising back from scoring more.

"We were able to stop 'em when we needed to," Worthington said, "so we were pleased with that defensively."

On offense, Soda Springs wasn't able to get much going. Kurtis Allen led the way with 46 yards on 15 carries, but nobody else was able to break double digits in rushing.

"The defense stepped up," Worthington said, "and now the offense needs to take their turn and have a consistent running game and passing game."

The Cardinals (0-3) continue their difficult nonconference schedule next week when they travel to face defending 2A champion West Jefferson.

By the time district play rolls around, Worthington hopes his young team will play more fundamental football.

"I know our kids will never quit on any game we play in," he said. "I know that. As we go into the season, we will get better."

Aberdeen 28, Sugar-Salem 0

ABERDEEN - Trevor Spence spearheaded Aberdeen's potent running game Friday, piling up 142 yards and three touchdowns on just 17 carries to propel the Tigers to a 28-0 home win over Sugar-Salem.

"We got up on them early and got them in trouble," Aberdeen coach Cory Hollingsworth said. "Offensively, we sort of had our way with them a little bit."

Spence scored on six-yard and 11-yard runs in the first quarter, and quarterback Bo Duffin added a 41-yard scoring run in the second.

Spence added his third touchdown, and sixth on the season, when he plowed into the end zone from two yards out in the third quarter.

Aberdeen (3-0) is unbeaten heading into its conference opener against West Side next week.

West Side 33, Rich County 18

DAYTON - West Side survived an emergency quarterback change to rally for a 33-18 home win over Rich County (Utah) on Friday.

The Pirates trailed 10-7 in the second quarter when Josh Roberts hit Zach Carter on a 13-yard pass to give them the lead heading into halftime. Roberts then completed a 16-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Bodily in the third quarter that nudged West Side ahead 21-7.

"When we scored in the third quarter, then we had a good feeling," West Side coach Lyle Henderson said. "That was the first time we felt very comfortable."

Roberts left the game shortly after that with an injury, leaving sophomore Dallas Turnbow under center. Turnbow led the Pirates on two more touchdown drives to seal the win.

West Side improved to 2-1 and faces 2A Fifth District rival Aberdeen next week.
