Snake River scored consistently throughout the match, and the two goals scored against them were in the waning minutes.

Though he is still going through the fundamentals of soccer with his youthful roster, Snake River head coach Randy Turpin was impressed with how quickly his players are picking up the game.

“I’ve got so many beginners,” he said. “A lot of kids, this is their first year so we’ve been working really hard on this team’s strategy. They did fantastic today.”

Snake River (1-2) will host North Fremont Sept. 7 at 9 a.m.

Highland 10, Pocatello 0

Highland took down Pocatello 10-0, but the play on the pitch wasn’t as lopsided as the score.

The embattled Pocatello Indians kept the game even through the first 20 minutes of play, and according to Highland head coach Mark Muzzo, they never quit.

“George (Asboe) is doing a great job building the program,” Muzzo said. “It takes years to do.”

After the first goal was scored by Highland, the floodgates opened and the Ram offense scored at will. They still had to fight through an Indian team that refused to lay down.

“I was proud of those guys,” Muzzo said of the Poky players. “I think they’re a notch better than they were last year.

Highland (1-1-1) and Poky (0-5) both begin conference play today at home at 4:30 p.m.

Snake River 2, South Fremont 1

Snake River’s Bridger Truman scored in the 30th minute and Juan Rivera scored on a penalty kick in the 65th to give the Panthers the 2-1 edge over South Fremont.

“The team played great,” said Snake River head coach Trevor Peterson. “We were able to incorporate a lot of stuff that we’ve been practicing and be able to bring that onto the field.”

Snake River (2-1) stays home to take on North Fremont Sept. 7 at 9 a.m.
