Canyon Ridge 2, Pocatello 1

    The Pocatello Indians made a push in the second half, but the Canyon Ridge Riverhawks stemmed off a late rally and beat the Indians 2-1 Tuesday in Twin Falls.

    Canyon Ridge jumped on Pocatello 1-0 at half and later built the lead to 2-0 before the Indians’ Kaitlen Lane hammered in a goal off a rebound midway through the second half.

    Pocatello threatened to even the score but could never find the equalizing goal.

    “We were a little too impatient with our attack,” said Pocatello head coach Doug Merkely. “ ... It was our coming of age game for us. We were doing a lot of experimenting and worked on our system of play. And we got beat in the process.”

    Pocatello (1-1) travels to Idaho Falls Thursday for a match at 7 p.m.

Hillcrest 4, Century 2

    Two minutes in and the Hillcrest Knights were up two goals, and that deficit was too large for the Century Diamondbacks to overcome in a 4-2 loss Tuesday in Idaho Falls.

    “We don’t have a team together,” said Century head coach Jamshid Roomiany. “It was pretty hard with no preseason games, and then we had to adjust early on with the two-goal deficit.”

    Kennedy Yost and Mikayla McCrae both scored for the Diamondbacks as they pulled within 3-2, but the Knights converted a penalty kick to seal the win.

    Century (0-1) travels to Highland Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. start.

Volleyball

    In a four-team jamboree, both the Highland Rams varsity and junior varsity beat Malad, Bear Lake and Burley.

    In the jamboree, each squad faced off against the other in 25-point games, essentially a preseason scrimmage.

    Highland begins its season today versus Canyon Ridge and Twin Falls at Highland High School, starting at 5 p.m.

    Century will also play Canyon Ridge and Twin Falls at Highland. The Rams will play one of the squads from Twins Falls while the Diamondbacks face the other, and then they will switch.
