    The Snake River boys soccer team lives to fight another day.

    Facing elimination in the 3A 5th District Tournament, the Panthers battled American Falls through a scoreless 80 minutes and first overtime before pulling out the 1-0 win off a penalty kick.

    Juan Rivera took the penalty kick after his shot was whistled for an American Falls handball.

    “The game was evenly matched,” said Snake River head coach Trevor Peterson. “It was kind of back and forth, one end to the other, pretty much throughout the whole game.”

    Snake River’s victory forces a final matchup with American Falls today at 4 p.m. for the district crown at Marsh Valley High School.

    After a dramatic win, Peterson hopes the same heart and intensity shown by his players throughout the tournament shines through again with the championship on the line.

    “I think it’ll be a very mentally challenging game for them,” Peterson said. “They’ll be physically tired, but they’ll have to be mentally able to push their way through it.”
