OGDEN, Utah — The Big Sky Conference announced Tuesday that senior Charles Norman has been named Big Sky Conference Tennis Player of the Week. This is the second time this season Norman has earned the award. He shares this week’s honor with Montana State’s Javier Martin-Morillas. For his outstanding performance, Norman has also been named Bengal Athlete of the Week.

    Last week, Norman went 3-0 in both doubles and singles and is currently on a six-match winning streak in singles. He has won four straight in doubles with partner and fellow senior Nate Gross.

     At the No. 2 position, Normand defeated North Dakota’s Connor Oberle 6-1, 6-0 and Northern Colorado’s Ben Gendron 7-5, 6-3. He closed the weekend with a win over Seattle’s Zach Kosanke 7-5, 6-1.

     In doubles, Gross and Norman played at the No. 1 position and defeated North Dakota 8-3 and Seattle 8-4. Against Northern Colorado, the duo jumped out to a 7-0 lead before downing the bears 8-1.

     Norman’s performance last weekend helped ISU defeat UND and Northern Colorado, keeping the Bengals a perfect 8-0 in conference. The three wins this weekend also gave the Bengals a perfect 8-0 home record for the 2013 season. It is the first undefeated home season for ISU in more than 10 years.

     Norman and the rest of the Bengals travel to Montana and Montana State this weekend for two pivotal matches. ISU needs just one win in the series to clinch at least a share of the regular season title while wins against both squads would give ISU the crown outright. The men have already clinched a spot in the 2013 Big Sky Tournament and will play for the team’s first tournament championship April 26-28.
