It was the Closing Day tournament Saturday at Highland for the Men’s High-River Association, and the winners were familiar—Bob Peters and Dan Pickens, who tied at one-under-par 71.

    Pickens birdied the final two holes while Peters bogeyed the 18th to throw the tournament into a deadlock, which stood since there was no playoff. Peters held a two-stroke lead at the turn with a one-under par 35, and moved another stroke ahead on the back nine before Pickens’ late rally squared the round.

    Prizes were paid to gross and net winners, and Scott Lacy was third gross at 72 but took handicap honors in the Championship Flight with a net 62.

    In the First Flight, Gary Marlatt was low at 78, while there was a three-way tie for net honors at 69 by Dennis Payne, Jeff Bloxham and Rick Bystrom.

    In the Second Flight, gross winner was Alan Don Green at 78, with Jimmy Demente atop the net standings with 64. A large field, attracted by perfect weather, competed in the three flights.

Snake River Seniors Tournament

    The Snake River Seniors Tournament was held at Riverside Golf Course last Wednesday as golfers played individual Chicago, and Marcus Sierra won the Regular Division with a plus-16.

    Kerry Huntsman was second with a plus-10, Tom Hofland and Dennis Shipley tied for third with a plus-nine, Bill Roosma was fifth (plus-8), Glen Lattin sixth (plus-five) and Gene Waters sevenths (plus-four).

    Richard Mendez was closest to the pin.

    In the Super Senior Division, Richard Winterbottom was first with a plus-seven. Buddy Huges and Larry Watt tied for second with matching plus-fives, Leonard Damron was fourth (plus-four) while Dick Asbell and Dan Wellard tied for fifth (plus-three).

Senior Men’s League

    The Senior Men’s League played individual stoke play, net only, last Monday at Riverside Golf Course. Noel Christensen placed first in the Regular Division with a 58.

    Tom Hofland was second (60) while Ron George, Bob Hartman, Rick Sands and Mark Sierra were tied for third (63).

    Terry Williams was closest to the pin.

    In the Super Senior Division, Ed Poppleton and Dan Wellard tied for first with matchings 59s. Doug Green (61) was third, Bruce Williams (64) fourth and Dale Larsen and Dave Allen (65) tied for fifth.

    Leonard Damron was closest to the pin.

Hole-in-one

    Don Higgins hit a hole-in-one on the 13th hole at Highland Golf Course. The 135-yard hole was aced with a hybrid club and was witnessed by Gail Higgins.
