Led by freshman Kimberlyn Fehringer, the Idaho State women’s rodeo team won the College Nationals Finals Rodeo, the first rodeo championship in the school’s history for either the women or men.

    Idaho State finished with 520 team points, outpacing second-place Northeastern Junior College by 30 points.

    Fehringer won breakaway roping with 370 points. The freshman from American Falls took third in the short-go and either first or second in every other round while roping her calf in 2.5 seconds or less each and every time.

    Fehringer, courtesy of taking seventh in barrel racing, ended the rodeo in second for the women’s all-around title, falling short of a second individual championship by 20 points to Hayden Segelke of Northeastern.

    Along with Fehringer’s efforts, the Bengals took the title because Shelby Freed was 13th in breakaway roping and 32nd in goat tying. Megan Gunter, continuing with the roping theme, was 15th in the breakaway, and Kiara Wanner finished 39th in barrel racing.
