The Idaho State softball team swept its second straight Big Sky Conference series Sunday by beating Northern Colorado 14-8.

    ISU swept Weber State last weekend in a three-game series and is now 20-18 and 7-2 in Big Sky play. The school record for most wins in a season is 25 by the 1979 team.

    The Bengals scored their 14 runs on 15 hits and committed three errors while Northern Colorado had five hits and two errors.

    Vicky Galasso and Terah Blackwell each went 3-for-4 with five RBI and two home runs. Becky Molyneaux was 3-for-4, Maddy Hickman was 2-for-4 and Hailey Breakwell was 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.

    “All of our hitters are doing a tremendous job,” Idaho State head coach Julie Wright said. “Terah, Vicky, Maddy and Becky were on fire this weekend. One through nine in our lineup is clicking. This sweep was huge for us. We now control our own destiny. It is a great place to be.”

    Amanda Fitzsimmons earned the win in the circle by pitching 3.1 innings and striking out three. Kelsi Ott pitched the final 3.2 innings and allowed only three hits and struck out three.

    ISU led 8-4 after two innings with a five-run first and a three-run second. Blackwell and Breakwell both had two-run home runs in the first while Galasso had an RBI single. Blackwell homered again in the second inning on a three-run shot with two outs.

    Northern Colorado cut the ISU lead to 9-7 after the fourth inning. The Bengals scored their run on a Galasso home run in the top of the fourth inning.

    Idaho State put the game away in the sixth inning with a five-run stanza. Galasso hit her second home run of the game on a three-run shot. Courtney Dial scored on an error in the inning and Breakwell brought in the fifth run on a sacrifice RBI.

    Idaho State returns to the field April 20-21 for a three-game series against Portland State, which is 8-1 in Big Sky Conference play. Both days’ action begins at 1 p.m.
