Century (4-4) at Hillcrest (7-1), 7 p.m.

At this time last year, Century and Hillcrest were trying to schedule each other for a late-season exhibition so that one of the lowly football programs could experience a win. It was thought that an extra game would help both teams, but the idea fizzled. No game was played, and each team finished the year winless. Looking back, it's almost impossible to believe that Century and Hillcrest are now facing each other in the playoffs. But both programs have made gigantic turnarounds. Century, behind a strong passing attack and solid defense, went 4-4 and qualified for the postseason as the Fifth District's No. 2 seed. Hillcrest's season was even more impressive. After losing its opener to Madison, the Tigers have reeled off seven straight wins and are now receiving first-place votes in the statewide media polls. Last week, Hillcrest locked up a Sixth District championship by beating defending state champion Blackfoot 47-40, and Century coach Nate Borchert knows it will take a good game from his Diamondbacks to advance to the second round of the playoffs. Shortly after losing to Pocatello last week, he was already talking about the Tigers. "Any team that can score 47 points on Blackfoot is very good," he said. "They're big up front, and we're going to have to figure out a way to deal with that."

Burley (1-7) at Pocatello (7-1), 5 p.m.

Could there be a less-anticipated playoff game than this? Pocatello has never lost to Burley under coach Tom Harrison, and when the two teams met earlier this season, the Indians won going away 42-6. In that game, the Bobcats could do nothing to stop Poky's rushing attack. Running backs Wes Howard and Zack McCain each rushed for more than 100 yards, and the Indians churned out 345 yards on the ground total. Unless Burley has suddenly figured out a way to win the battle up front, Poky should win comfortably once again.

Skyline (1-7) at Highland (6-2), 7:45 p.m.

What a long season it's been for Skyline. The Grizzlies started off the year with an exciting 29-28 win over Rigby, but haven't won since. In most games, they haven't been close. Highland will play Skyline at 7:45 p.m. today in the season finale for both teams, and unless something crazy happens, the Rams should finish 5A District 4, 5, 6 play undefeated while the Grizzlies extend their losing streak to eight games. The biggest obstacle the Rams must overcome is their own interest level. They have already locked up a district championship and will host a first round playoff game next week.

South Fremont (3-5) at American Falls (5-3), 7 p.m.

The American Falls football team will try to advance to the second round of the playoffs for the second straight year today against South Fremont. The Beavers come into the game with a better record and home-field advantage, but they know they can't take South Fremont lightly. Even though it doesn't possess a winning record, South Fremont ended the season on a two-game winning streak.

Malad (7-1) at Declo (5-3), 7 p.m.

When Malad visited Declo early in the season, the Dragons needed a furious second-half rally to escape with a 26-22 victory. In that game, Malad had all kinds of trouble hanging onto the ball in the first two quarters and set up Declo with a lot of easy points with multiple fumbles. This time around, Malad would prefer to start strong and win a more relaxed game.

Salmon (6-2) at Snake River (4-4), 2 p.m. Saturday

Thanks to the luck of a coin toss, Snake River gets home-field advantage against Salmon at 2 p.m. on Saturday. But playing at home didn't much help the Panthers against the Savages earlier this year. In their regular season meeting, Salmon defeated Snake River 25-18.

West Side (5-3) vs. West Jefferson (7-1), 3:30 p.m. at Holt Arena Saturday

West Jefferson, the defending 2A state champion, wasn't the team West Side wanted to see in the first round of the playoffs this season. Last season, West Jefferson ended the Pirates' season with a win in Holt Arena, and this year West Jefferson boasts a 7-1 record. Its only loss came in its first game against 3A Salmon.

Aberdeen (8-0) vs. Firth (5-3), 6 p.m. at Holt Arena Saturday

The Aberdeen football team didn't draw the easiest of opponents for its first playoff game. Firth, winner of the 2A state title two years ago, is 5-3 and knows what it takes to win in the postseason. But if the Tigers play as well as they have all season long on Saturday, a difficult opponent may not matter. Behind 1,000-yard rusher Trevor Spence, Aberdeen went undefeated and was only challenged in three games.
