Idaho State junior tight end Josh Cook is on two preseason All-America teams.

The Sporting News magazine and Athlon Sports both had Cook, who had 524 receiving yards, three touchdowns and catches as a sophomore, on their 2015 FCS preseason All-American lists.

Cook, a native of Santa Ana, California, has been one of Idaho State’s most consistent weapons since arriving at Idaho State from Mater Dei High School. He’s played in 24 games the past two seasons and had 317 receiving yards and 32 catches as a redshirt freshman in 2013.

Perhaps just as importantly as his production on the field, Idaho State coach Mike Kramer has said that Cook, a third-team all-conference Big Sky selection last year, is one of ISU’s key team leaders.

The Sporting News also had Montana State offensive lineman JP Flynn, Eastern Washington wide receiver Cooper Kupp, Southern Utah defensive lineman James Cowser and Sacramento State linebacker Darnell Sankey on its All-American list. Kupp, Flynn and Cowser joined Cook on Athlon’s All-American team.

The Sporting News picked Idaho State to finish third in the Big Sky Conference, behind defending-champion Eastern Washington and Montana State. The Bengals landed at No. 13 in the magazine’s preseason top-25 poll, and Athlon had Idaho State at No. 18.

ISU went 8-4 in 2014, the most wins for the program in a season since 2003. Idaho State must replace quarterback Justin Arias and his 4,076 passing yards that led the nation. But there are nine other returning offensive starters and several crucial defensive players in senior safeties Cody Sorensen and Taison Manu, senior defensive tackle Tyler Kuder and sophomore linebacker Mario Jenkins.
