PRESTON - Behind 20 points from Holly Checketts and 10 from Brooke Beckstead, the Preston girls' basketball team defeated Shelley 57-42 on Thursday.

The Indians improved to 3-3 with the win and now head into their district opener against Pocatello on Tuesday with some momentum.

Six other Indians scored around Checketts and Beckstead.

"This was a good game for us," coach Ryon Pope said. "We had eight different people who got into the scoring column, and Holly had a great game. She's had a lot of them this year."

Preston led 30-17 at halftime but watched Shelley come back to within three points in the third quarter. That's when Beckstead hit a 3-pointer to swing the game back in the Indians' favor.

They won easily after that.
