PRESTON - Preston entered its game against playoff-bound Burley knowing it had missed out on the playoffs itself.

The problem was, the Bobcats had won just one game all year, while the Indians had a winning record.

The fired-up Indians took their frustration out on the Bobcats in a 55-7 home win Friday, but that didn't ease the sting of finding out after the game that Rigby also will be joining Burley in the playoffs as a 1-7 team by beating Bonneville.

"This was a statement game for us to make a point that we should have qualified for the playoffs," Preston coach Shawn Marlow. "But as we all know, you have to win the right games, and we didn't do it."

Koltyn Hobbs caught four passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns, while Kyle Johnson rushed for three touchdowns. Preston (5-3) also rewarded senior linemen Shane Oliverson and Tyler Moser with a carry each, with Oliverson plunging into the end zone from four yards out on his.

Preston practiced a few such plays for them this week to keep spirits up in their final few practice sessions.

"It's hard to practice that last week when you know you're now playing for anything but pride," Marlow said. "We tried to give them a little love this week. That was kind of a fun thing."
