CENTURY 18, RIDGEVUE 10 (6)

Century won a high-scoring affair 18-10 in six innings against Ridgevue on Saturday at Vallvue High School on the final day of the Buck’s Bags Spring Classic tournament.

The Diamondbacks opened the game with seven first-inning runs and never fell behind the rest of the game.

“We hit the ball well, obviously,” Century coach Duane Rawlings said. “We still made some mistakes... but our hitting carried us through.”

Austin Losser was the D-backs’ leading hitter, tallying two hits, four RBIs and two runs on five at-bats.

Century (3-3) hosts Blackfoot on Wednesday.

HIGHLAND 12, KUNA 2 (5)

Highland finished 4-0 in the Buck’s Bags Spring Classic tournament, beating Kuna 12-2 in five innings Saturday at Boise High School.

The Rams scored six runs in the second inning and five in the fourth to pull away.

“It was a great weekend heading into district play,” Highland coach Christian Colonel said. “It’s good to have our pitchers execute.”

Dahlin Ashby pitched a complete game for Highland, allowing three hits and no earned runs, while striking out three and walking none.

Highland (6-1) plays Friday at Hillcrest.

EAGLE 6, POCATELLO 5

Pocatello lost 6-5 in walk-off fashion Saturday at Eagle High in the Buck’s Bags Spring Classic tournament.

“It was a good game and that’s a good team,” Pocatello coach Vinnie Benavidez said. “Tough way to lose, but overall — on the weekend — we played good baseball and I’m proud of the kids.”

Pocatello (3-4) hosts Idaho Falls on Friday.

SKYVIEW 4, BLACKFOOT 1

Blackfoot struggled to pile up runs in a 4-1 loss Saturday at Skyview in the Buck’s Bags Spring Classic tournament.

The Broncos tallied seven hits, including three extra-base hits, but struggled to score off them. The Hawks earned three of their four runs in the first two innings of the game.

“We’ve got to find a way to string base hits together,” Blackfoot coach Liam Pope. “Just little things we can fix. Nothing I’m going to lose sleep over.”

The Broncos were led by Jace Jorgensen and Jared Gough, who had two hits apiece.

Blackfoot (5-4, 1-1 4A District 5-6) plays Wednesday at Century.

IDAHO FALLS 9, PRESTON 3

Preston could not overcome a slow start in a 9-3 loss Saturday at Idaho Falls.

The Indians allowed eight runs in the first three innings.

“Honestly, they were just hitting spots, hitting gaps,” Preston coach Kenny Inglet said of the Tigers. “Today, we played a lot better than yesterday. We actually hit the ball quite well. Defensively, we were a lot better.”

Ethan Holton, Caleb Rounds and Justin Phillips tallied two hits apiece for the Indians (3-4, 1-2 4A District 5-6), who host Skyline on Thursday.

KUNA 8, HIGHLAND 2

KUNA 13, HIGHLAND 3 (6)

Highland was swept in a home doubleheader Saturday, losing 8-2 and 13-3 in six innings to Kuna.

The Rams continue to focus on improving defensively.

“We started doing some things better today that we’ve been working on in practice,” Highland coach Tisha Coverdell said. “But then the same thing would come up later in the game, and we would make a mistake.”

Veronica Bosquez had two hits for the Rams in the 13-3 loss, making her the one player with a multi-hit performance Saturday.

Highland (5-9) plays Wednesday at Rigby.

VALLIVUE 9, POCATELLO 7

TIMBERLINE 13, POCATELLO 5

Pocatello was eliminated from the WTP tournament Saturday, losing 9-7 to Vallivue and 13-5 to Timberline at Vallivue High School.

The Indians allowed 27 hits through two games.

“We’re scoring enough runs to win games, but we just have to make routine plays,” Pocatello coach Josh Naylor said. “We’re letting teams have too many big innings.”

Maddi Palmer and Alyssa Winn each had one three-hit performance Saturday for Pocatello (5-4), which hosts Century on Thursday.
