Century opened its season Friday with a doubleheader home sweep of Jerome, winning game one 13-5 and game two 13-7.

In the opener, the D-backs had 11 hits, led by three apiece from Austin Losser and Easton Lucero. Jacob Gebo added three RBIs.

In game two, Century’s Nate Manning had three hits and three RBIs, while Losser earned the win on the mound.

“We hit the ball like I expected,” Century coach Duane Rawlings said. “I’m happy. We are going to be a good hitting team.”

Century (2-0) plays March 30 against Pocatello at Halliwell Park.

CANYON RIDGE 14, PRESTON 6

Preston committed six errors in Friday’s 14-6 loss at Canyon Ridge.

The Indians plated runs in each of the first four innings, but couldn’t keep pace with the Riverhawks, who scored five runs in the first frame and benefited from Preston’s errors by scoring six unearned runs.

Isaiah Smith and Dillon Haslam had two hits apiece for Preston (1-2), which hosts Snake River on Tuesday.

Highland swept Sky View, Utah, in a home doubleheader Friday, winning 12-2 and 11-1, both in five innings.

Makayia Anderson went 4 for 4 in the 12-1 win, while teammates Veronica Bosquez and Shylee Mann plated three RBIs apiece. Makayla Mauger led the Rams with three RBIs in the 11-1 victory.

“They adjusted pretty well to the pitching,” Highland coach Tisha Coverdell said. “Across the board, we consistently did a good job with our hitting. Our defense improved from the first game to the second game.”

The Rams (5-2) plays a doubleheader Saturday at Twin Falls.

POCATELLO 9, MINICO 0

Pocatello outscored Minico 23-0 in Friday’s doubleheader sweep on the road.

Indians batters Alyssa Winn, Maddi Palmer, Hannah Evans and Makenzie Campbell hit home runs, highlighted by Winn’s grand slam in the 9-0 win.

In three games this season, Poky has outscored its opponents 27-2.

“Our pitching is outstanding right now,” Indians coach Josh Naylor said. “We’re right where we need to be through three games. We had some big hits.”

Pocatello (3-0) plays Bonneville after next week’s spring break.

CENTURY VS. JEROME

Century’s home game Friday against Jerome was canceled because of unplayable field conditions. No makeup date has been announced.

Century (0-0) hosts Rigby on March 28 for a doubleheader.

Century’s boys and girls teams dropped their home matches Friday against Hillcrest, with both teams losing 3.5-2.5.

The D-backs, who started eight players with no varsity experience, were paced by Adriene Pavek, who won her season-opening match in two sets. Arne Klutsch and Jens Klutsch won in two sets in boys doubles.

“We were missing some people and started some new players against a good 5A squad,” Century coach Sean Kane said.

Pocatello boys (0-1) and girls (0-1) host Pocatello on March 29.

Pocatello boys tennis picked up a 4-2 win Thursday at Minico, after dropping a 7-5 contest to Burley. The Indians girls tied Minico 3-3 and lost to Burley 4-2.

Poky boys singles players Jordon Michaelson, Josh Halversen and Bryce Johnson all went 2-0, as did No. 3 girls singles player Emma Horrocks.
