OK, so this guy breaks into a fabrication plant, breaks open a candy machine, takes a few chips and chocolate bars, doesn’t try to escape, simply sits down and begins to sample his hoard of ill gotten goods and apparently doesn’t resist the police upon arrival. Sounds like a case for Inspector Clouseau! Come on, this guy’s charged with a felony for stealing junk food? And you thought the travails of Jean Valjean was a fairy tale. In an era where murderers are set free and politicians defend colleagues’ immoral conduct, personal wealth has come to determine the level of prosecution. When the legal system fails to arrest a couple whose children have mysteriously disappeared for over a year and a companion to a suspected murder victim isn’t remanded for questioning, then hypocrisy becomes the accepted norm.
