FORT HALL — Shoshone-Bannock Tribes officials confirmed Monday that a shooting from last Friday that injured a 27-year-old woman was accidental.

The victim, Sherri Cerino, underwent surgery at Portneuf Medical Center and was later transported to the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah for further treatment.

At this time, tribal officials say she is listed in critical condition due to a gun shot wound to the chest.

The investigation is ongoing with regards to what exactly happened at the Wig Wam Trailer courts in Fort Hall around 6:48 p.m. on Oct. 26.

Lorenzo Quagigant Jr. reportedly arrived at the Fort Hall Police Department last Friday to use the after-hour lobby telephone to place a call to dispatch for help.

According to tribal authorities, Quagigant was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon. He also faces a charge related to being intoxicated in public.

The gun was recovered and placed in the evidence locker.
