The man who was injured in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 91 near Fort Hall Sunday around 10 p.m. is still listed in stable condition at Portneuf Medical Center, according to hospital officials.
Authorities indicated the accident happened when Ernest Bercier, 47, of Idaho Falls, was fleeing from Bannock County Sheriff's Office deputies after he failed to stop for a traffic violation. Bercier then collided with a 2003 Dodge caravan, driven by Aaron Martin, 33, of Chubbuck.
After the collision, Bercier reportedly drove off the roadway and into a canal.
Bercier and passenger Glenda Dixey, 43, of Pocatello, were transported to the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello. Dixey was treated and released. Bercier’s health status remained unchanged Tuesday.
Martin and his passengers were not injured, according to Idaho State Police.
The highway was blocked for approximately two hours.
