Several thousand people in Southeast Idaho were without power Monday morning due to two separate outages.

   About 1,600 Idaho Power customers in the Pocatello area were without power for several hours Monday morning due to a power line being down. Early reports are that a vehicle struck a power pole in the area of Bannock Highway near the T Box convenience store.

    Idaho Power reports that the outage affected customers on Grant Ave., Bannock Highway, Clark and Center Streets, Lander Street, Fremont Street, Lincoln Ave., Buchanan Ave., Johnson Street, Whitman Ave., Wyeth St. and Lewis Street in Pocatello.

     Power was restores in Pocatello by 11 a.m.

  A downed power transmission line between Rexburg and St. Anthony knocked out power for about 14,000 Rocky Mountain Power customers in Rexburg, St. Anthony, Sugar City, Ashton and Teton Monday.

The outage that occurred about 5:30 a.m. coupled with subzero temperatures resulted in school cancellations and kept businesses from opening on schedule.

Rocky Mountain Power said power had been restored to all customers by 10:25 a.m. That meant some customers had to resort to generators, wood stores and blankets to keep warm for as long as five hours as double-digit below zero temperatures lurked outside.
