The Jost family will return to Pocatello this month to share their music and faith with the community in two free concerts.

The Josties — comprised of parents Dale, a former pastor in the Evangelical Free Church, and Lisa Jost and nine of their 11 children — Josiah, Joel, Emily, Jeremiah, Joseph, Joshua, Amy-Joy, Hannah-Grace and Judah — will give two performances on Sept. 22.

The first concert will take place at Christ Church, 1245 N. Arthur Ave., at 11 a.m., followed by a second performance at Pocatello First United Methodist Church, 200 N. 15th Ave., at 7 p.m.

Vincent and Priscilla Miller, who attend Pocatello First United Methodist Church, and Kesh and Tara Chhetri, who attend Christ Church, helped organize the concerts.

Vincent Miller said the Jost family typically draws a big crowd so they opted to hold two events to give more people a chance to attend the concerts.

“They radiate love and have great talent,” Miller said, adding that it’s touching to watch the family members perform together.

Lisa Jost said her family has been performing their music, which she describes as an organic blend of acoustic country and folk with some light contemporary sounds — for nearly seven years.

A friend encouraged the family to make an album and afterwards the Josties began touring as they received more invitations to share their music.

The fact the group is comprised of family members makes it easier to find time to practice between concerts, Lisa Jost said, adding that their close relationship also makes it easier to forgive each other on “rough travel days.”

“We also love the family harmonies and the understanding that comes from knowing each other so well,” she said.

Although she writes the music the group performs, Jost said the whole family contributes to the arrangements, which utilize numerous instruments and vocal parts.

“We love to use this as an opportunity to share our vision for families as well as bring practical help and hope to everyone we meet,” Lisa Jost said.

Although the family has its share of difficulties just like everyone else, Jost said the “amazing grace of God is at work in our family every day, keeping us together and loving this crazy bunch of people.” And she hopes the music they make together will uplift those overwhelmed with their own trials.

“Our main desire is to ignite hope in Christ and bring joy to our audiences,” she said.

The family is excited to return to Pocatello, Lisa Jost said, adding that they plan to perform a few brand-new songs during their concerts.

“Our music appeals to all ages, and we hope to bring energy and encouragement in each concert,” she said, adding that they also enjoy meeting and praying with those who request it after a performance.

Vincent Miller encourages people to attend one of The Josties concerts while they are in Pocatello.

“Come out and be encouraged by their music, their message and the humor they put into their performance and concerts,” he said. “It is a spiritually uplifting experience.”
