Eastern Idaho is in for some stormy, windy and colder weather this week.

The National Weather Service reports that mountain snow could even fall on the highest peaks Tuesday through Thursday.

Accumulations are expected to be minimal. Most Eastern Idahoans will be more likely to encounter precipitation in the form of rain this week.

Thunderstorms, mostly in the Central and Eastern Idaho mountains, are likely Tuesday and Wednesday and could continue to occur Thursday through the weekend. The storms will pack high winds and small hail and will also trigger brief but heavy downpours of rain.

A cold front will arrive on Tuesday night in Eastern Idaho, causing winds of over 30 mph region wide through at least Wednesday night. The weather service says it will likely issue a lake wind advisory Wednesday because of the strong gusts.

The cold front will also drive down temperatures in Eastern Idaho, with daytime highs in lower elevations being in the 60s and 70s and daytime highs in the mountains in the 50s.
