UCON — The speed limit on Idaho Highway 43, south of Ucon, will be reduced to 35 miles per hour starting today, according to Idaho Transportation Department officials.

    In addition, the speed limit one-third of a mile south of 105th North will be lowered to 45 mph.

    The decision behind the permanent speed limit change is to reduce the number of traffic accidents in that area. The speed limit was 55 mph.

    Furthermore, posted speeds are the maximum allowed under favorable weather conditions and supplement driver judgment of a reasonable speed under conditions that are less than ideal.

    Motorists are being urged to watch for road crews on the shoulders of the highway during sign installation.

    Idaho State Police and local law enforcement officers will patrol the route during and after the transition.

    ITD board members approved the speed-limit change on May 16.
