SODA SPRINGS — Authorities issued a warning Tuesday with regards to a scam that is going around — one that targets the elderly.
Soda Springs Police Department officials further indicated they have received several complaints recently that involve scammers who call to request bail money be sent via wire transfer, usually to a foreign location.
These scammers reportedly call you by name and know the names of your family members.
Furthermore, the thieves told individuals living in the Soda Springs area that a family member had been arrested in a foreign country and was in need of money for bail, usually in excess of $1,000 via wire transfer at Broulim’s Pharmacy.
Scammers also informed victims not to tell the person facilitating the wire transfer about the details of the transaction as in doing so additional fees and taxes would be applied.
Anyone who receives such a call should be suspicious and is being advised to
confirm the story with their relative.
