Snowboarder

Doug Lindley / Idaho State Journal

A snowboarder takes advantage of new snow on a hill near Pocatello.

Several inches of snow fell on Pocatello and the surrounding area Monday with a slight chance of snow through New Year’s Day. Highs in Pocatello should be about 22 degrees with lows in the single digits. The clouds should disappear by Wednesday with mostly sunny skies and cold temperatures in the 20s throughout the week.

Idaho State Police and Southeast Idaho area sheriff’s offices reported a number of slide-offs on roads, but no serious accidents were reported Monday. Clearing skies and frigid temperatures will dominate the weather from American Falls to Idaho Falls Tuesday and Wednesday with chances of freezing fog in the mornings. Temperatures in the Montpelier area will dip to below zero Tuesday and Wednesday night.

An air quality alert is in effect in the Preston area and wood burning restrictions are in place.
