BLACKFOOT — The Snake River School District Board of Trustees will meet today to discuss several important issues, including a possible supplemental levy, the appointment of a new board member and an automated emergency call out system.

The meeting will take place at the Snake River Middle School, located at 1060 W. 110 S., Blackfoot, at 7 p.m.

Superintendent Mark Gabrylczyk said the board will consider the possibility of requesting its first-ever supplemental levy at tonight’s meeting.

Gabrylczyk said the district’s Strategic Planning Committee, which is comprised of patrons, students, teachers and administrators, suggested that the board seek the supplemental levy. Trustees haven’t made any decisions at this point, so there aren’t many details available right now, Gabrylczyk said, adding that more information will be released if they decide to move forward with the request tonight.

The board is also planning to appoint a new trustee during its meeting to fill the spot vacated by Julie VanOrden, who is now serving as a state representative for Legislative District 31. The new trustee will serve until May, Gabrylczyk said.

The board will also consider implementing an automated emergency call out system.

“Because of the recent weather we’ve had, we want to have an emergency call out system so we’re able to better get a hold of parents,” he said.

The district already uses an App, Facebook page and its own website to send out emergency notifications, but an automated call system would provide a direct link to parents.

“It’s something the district wants to explore purchasing,” he said. “It’s something the district wants to explore purchasing. It would make it easier for everyone.”

The board will also discuss several other items tonight, including the superintendent’s contract, a bus purchase and needed repairs for an auditorium sound system. To view the complete agenda, visit blackfootjournal.com.
